The
Leopard 2 is a main battle tank (main battle tank MBT ) developed by
the German Krauss- Maffei in the early 1970s and began to be used in
1979 . Replace Leopard 1 Leopard 2 main battle tank as the West German Army ( Bundeswehr ) . Various versions have been used by the German Army and in 12 other European countries , some from outside Europe . More than 3,480 Leopard 2 has been produced . The
Leopard 2 first used the German Army at the Battle of Kosovo as well as
Canadian and Danish troops belonging to the ISAF in Afghanistan .
